I am glad to hear that people are not blindly following the new rule. I am still banking on the next government to reverse this ridiculous rule.

Yes. Whether it is Pongal or Tamil New Year is celeberated by the Tamil Speaking Hindus. So it is definitely a Hindu festival. Secular Government? cannot change any custom followed by any religion. Mr.Tamilar Talaivar (Karunanidhi) always meddled with Hindu religion. Today (14.01.2009) I have travelled many towns of Tamil Nadu and found in 99% of the houses they have written below the Kolam "Wish You Happy Pongal" only and nobody written any thing about Tamil New Year. So people consider only 14 th April/ 1st of Chithrai as tamil New Year.
