Careerbuilder.com Layoffs

Apparently rumors are making rounds about significant layoff at CareerBuilder.com. In my mind, this layoff is significant than any other layoffs as it clearly demonstrates the deteriorating state of the job market. Let me put it this way, CareerBuilder knows and understands the job market really well: it must be getting bad, otherwise why would they layoff?

Companies must be getting weary of paying those huge listing fees, while CraigsList costs next to nothing. Hmm.. should I short Monster now?
Someone at Careerbuilder wrote an article on six ways to prepare for layoff. I am just curious to see if they followed it themselves!! Did they get to eat their own dog food?

This is a very unfortunate incident. Hundreds of people are without jobs and right before the holidays. You don’t think we’re in a recession until it hits close to home. There has been buzz about the restructuring of CareerBuilder but I don’t think any expected something like what we saw today.

Sorry to hear this. Yes, holiday seasons is the worst time for the layoffs.
Good luck to you and your co-workers, hopefully you will land on a better job.
The layoff came out of nowhere. We had a conference call a couple weeks ago where they told us our jobs were safe. They told us the cuts would come naturally as they were no longer adding to the work force. They herded us into a room for a “heads up” and told us to grab our coats and leave. We asked why they thought putting 110 people into a room and telling us we weren’t worthy was dignified. Their response? “We were thinking of the number” I’m glad to know I came in everyday and tried my hardest to be a “number”. I’m done with corporate America, I can’t imagine this is much different from other companies, and if that’s the case I’d rather work somewhere that will treat me like a person and not a piece of trash.
