Open letter to Cisco management: please buyout Sun Microsystems

I stumbled upon an interesting article on NYtimes about Cisco venturing into the server market. Make no mistake, server market is crowded with marginal profits. Here is what Cisco has to say about their new endeavor:
Cisco executives played down the potential for serious conflict [with other server vendors]. “We see this not as a new market, but a market transition,” said Padmasree Warrior, the company’s chief technology officer. “Any time there is a major transition occurring, there will be large companies that have to compete in some areas.” The technology …

Is Microsoft Vista on the right path?

We all have heard numerous  times about the issues with Vista: Vista does not work, is not compatible with everything under the sun, and blah.. blahs.  I am not denying some of these allegations. When I was running the IT at Music Intelligence Solutions, I made a conscious decision to standardize all our laptops and desktops on Windows XP - it was the right decision at that time.
Fast forward to now: I recently purchased a new laptop, which came pre-loaded with Vista. To be honest, I am pleasantly surprised and …

Congratulations to the JavaFX team

Tomorrow is history making event at Sun Microsystems with their JavaFX release. This is a major event at Sun since their Java release, even eclipsing the OpenSolaris announcement. Sun took a bold step with burying J2ME and venturing on to a whole new direction, resulting in JavaFX.
Salute to Sun, the development team and also Jeet Kaul, Vice President of Client Software Group. Six months back, I had the opportunity of having lunch with him (Thanks to Rory for organizing it). We discussed very many things, of course JavaFX dominated the …

Up until now, I had to always use outlook  just to keep up with the blackberry, while using ubuntu for everything else. As you can imagine, it was a nightmare to switch back and forth when you are expected to have tons of emails:)
My configuration specs:

Ubuntu 8.0.4 - the Hardy Heron

Evolution Version -  2.22.3.1
Blackberry - Curve model

Following are the step-by-step instructions for syncing Blackberry with Evolution on Linux.
Prerequisite: Go to my.funambol.com and setup your blackberry …

I couldn’t help laughing at the following advertisement:
Basically the highlighted text, in Tamil language, request the users to click on the google advertisements shown all over the screen. This pretty much violates google’s adsense ToS. I wonder how much money this site made so far with this innovative approach!!!
Funny note to Google: Wakeup and hire people skilled with every possible language on this planet to nix this issue. How about Tamil for a starter!!

Following is a robot developed by robotics at the University of Pennsylvania, which is made of modules that can recognize each other. sounds like the Terminator movie. This video shows the future of self organizing robots, which will make human life much easier - hopefully they wont take over the world.

By the title I didn’t mean that Microsoft is getting into anymore monopoly or legal issues. I had meant the company behind the infamous T-Mobile’s SideKick device. It is a very nice and cool device; I used to love their Telnet feature.
Is this Microsoft’s answer to iPhone and upcoming Android? Now developers have to deal with one more type of device when it comes to building mobile applications. Here is a killer idea; someone should write a wrapper application/software that could run an application on any mobile device - …
